Melkote is a temple town famous for two temples – Yoganarasimha and Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple. The stairway to the temple on top of the hill presents many interesting photo opportunities. Made of stone, it is dotted with resting places, goats, and smaller housings for deities like the one in this photograph. This is a HDR photo made from 7 exposures shot with a 1D Mark III.
A lady bug that most likely ended up really cursing humanity, thanks to my persistent efforts to get a good photograph 🙂 I was shooting several angles, and managed to make a few keepers. One of them is this. Cross-processed in Photoshop. This was shot in Lalbagh, Bangalore.
A busy bee and a sunflower. Can anything else express happiness more?
Chikmaglur is famous for its home-stays. One such home-stay is called Ghattikallu, as it is close to the hillock by the same name. This is a sunset photograph of Ghattikallu, made as an HDR.
The spider hunter belongs to the family of sunbirds. They are characterized by long strongly curved bills. This particular fella was very busy collecting nectar, and I had a good timing chasing him as he moved from one flower to another. Notice how small he is, compared to the flower. Shot with a 100-400L and 1D Mark 3 lens near Puttur.
This image was shot using a 50mm 1.2L lens, with an extension tube attached. The 50L is one of the fastest lenses from Canon, which means it has a very shallow depth of field. By adding a extension tube, the DOF reduces further. That is what gives this photograph a soft, dreamy look. This is an Emigrant or Lemon Emigrant butterfly from Halebid.
The kalyani at the Boganandishwara Temple is a very interesting space. From this photograph, you can see how perfectly geometrical it is. This photograph is a minor effort to capture the already beautiful structure.
I call this the Coracle Carnival only because of the number of coracles that were present that way. But at hogenakkal falls, I think this is just another weekend. The falls are really beautiful, and also reveal the fury of river Kaveri as it meanders through Karnataka towards Tamil Nadu.
I spent a lot of time with my tripod and macro lens making this photograph at Agara lake, Banaglore. There was a time when the lake was much healthier than it is now. One could find a variety of bugs, butterflies and insects. All through the shooting of this image, this dragonfly was totally unperturbed. I am quite sure he was in deep slumber! Anyway, I later learnt that butterflies do not start their day until the temperature gets a little warm.
