Masks and Shields

Soaring heights, that I was afraid of

Deepest depths, I was unaware of

Monsoon clouds, that I looked forward to

Starry nights when I knew what to do

The ocean, sand, trees and grass wore no masks

Old memories stored in a brain sized cask

I wish I had stories to tell about how they aged over time

But the shield is much to strong to let the words rhyme

Went to surrender to changing seasons

Returned with wounds inflicted by inner demons

Like forgotten pagan stories of the land

The memories disappeared in the shifting seaside sand

The elemental life is hidden in mask and shields

The mind was controlled by creatures that do not bleed

But after swallowing all the bitter pills, what remains?

The passage of time has dissolved hopes and dreams from this brain
